Hence, after a brief review of vibrations, waves, physical optics and the origin of Maxwell's equations this course will address topics including relativistic kinematics and covariant form of Maxwell's equations; propagation of EM waves in vacuum and dielectric media, Fresnel's equations; radiation, interaction of quantum systems with radiation, lasers; RF, microwaves, waves through plasmas and the ionosphere; superconductivity; optoelectronics, optical fibres, non-linear effects. Applications of these topics in areas such as astronomy, y-ray and infrared telescopes, communications and optical computers will be discussed.
